10264 Intro to Patchwork by Hand - 02/03 (12:00 PM - 3:00 PM)

In this four session course for beginners, Tahli deCourcy will cover making templates, cutting and marking fabric, hand piecing, tying and binding a quilt. With these basics, you will have all the skills to complete a simple quilt. No sewing experience required.

100% Cotton mid-light weight
For Quilt Blocks: 1/3 yd of at least 4 or 5 different fabrics (We will be cutting 5.5" squares)… You can use as many different fabrics as you like!
Try to find combinations that have at least a little bit of contrast and variety so that your patchwork patterns will show (light/dark, solid/pattern, color contrast). 

Borders: 0.5 yd
Backing: 1.5 yd
Binding: 0.5 yd

18" Clear Drafting Ruler
Paper Scissors
Template Plastic: 1 sheet
Fine point felt pen (Sharpie)
Fabric Scissors
Applique Pins
Needles: Sharps (Size 9 or 10)
Thread: 100% cotton 50 weight, color should blend with fabrics
Small scissors for clipping threads
Fabric for Blocks (see Fabrics below)

Fabric Marking Tools:
Chalk pencil for dark fabrics (Recommended: Sewline Mechanical Ceramic Pencil)
Silver marking pencil or graphite pencil for light fabrics

Additional Materials:
Batting: Cotton Batting (crib size)
Embroidery Needles
Embroidery Floss

Skill Level: Beginner
Requirements: No experience necessary. Handwork only.
