10258 Peek & Seek QAYG - 01/16 (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

Inspired by all the novelty & Conversational fabrics in the “I Spy” quilt, Judy Doenias developed her own version: a double-sided, reversible, quilt-as-you-go, peek and seek game quilt to delight kids of all ages. This one is loads of fun: you sew & quilt at the same time, so when the top is done, the quilt is done as well. One stop shop and no more UFO’s.

SUPPLIES:
Fabric:
The amount of fabric recommended is based on the finished size 49” x 60”--54 different squares plus borders) Your quilt can be any size, however; adjust the fabric amounts accordingly.

The front of the block is a square within a square pattern. The center square on point will be the novelty fabric, the remainder will be a background fabric. You will want a variety of conversational/novelty fabrics that allow you to cut both 6 1⁄2” squares (for the back) and 4” squares on point(for the front). Scraps, fat quarters or quarters from bolts are fine. You will be cutting either the front images or the back images from these fabrics, or both from the same fabric.

2 yds. of background fabric for the front
1 yd of fabric for the front sashing and binding
1 yd of fabric for the back sashing and binding
1 3⁄4 yds of fabric for the front borders
1 3⁄4 yds of fabric for the back borders

Notions:
Pins
Scissors
Needles for appliqué
Seam ripper
Rotary cutter
6.5” square acrylic ruler (optional - 4” square, 6” square)

Thread (thread for the bobbin of the machine should coordinate with the fabrics you choose for the reverse of the quilt since it will appear as quilting on the back. You may also wish to add additional quilting to the front and if so, you will also need thread to coordinate with the front background fabric.)

Thin cotton batting (double bed size)

Preparation before class: Backing, batting and shapes for the front must be cut before class.
Cut as many 6 1⁄2 ” squares from novelty fabrics as you wish for the back.
Cut the same number of 6 1⁄2” squares of batting

Cut as many 4” squares, on point, from novelty fabrics as you wish for the front
From 5” strips of background fabric (for the front) cut 5” squares. Divide each square diagonally into two half square triangles. Cut as many as you need. You will need four half-square triangles for each block.

The quilt you will make can be any size and the amount of fabrics for the first class need not be the full amount. Just bring as much as you can cut beforehand.
